Koolau Amateur Radio Club Current Practices
Membership Dues: Starting in 2003, the club agreed to make dues payable on the first of each year, January 1. If more than half a year remains, new members may pay until the following January 1, prorated at $1 per month. If less than one year remains new members are asked to pay for a full year plus the remainder of the present year at the same $1 per month rate. Members who are in arrears on dues are asked to catch up according to the same formula.
Meetings: Meetings are commonly held at the Ho’omaulahia Botanical Park Visitor Center on Windward Oahu. The December meeting is held further back in the park at the Nui Campground and includes a group picnic and radio operation, usually during the ARRL 10 meter contest.
Notification of Meetings: Based on modern communications available, notification of meetings is now conducted via Email and our Web Pages in lieu of ordinary postal mail.
New Members: New members are traditionally voted in by the membership present at the meeting at which they submit their application for membership, based on a simple majority of those members present.
Officer’s Term: Officers are traditionally elected at the May or June meeting and their term is the same as the club’s fiscal year, running from 1 July to the following 30 June.
Annual Activities: The club makes a major effort for the ARRL Field Day every year as its primary club activity. The club also holds its December meeting at a park campground and features a potluck lunch and operating activities similar to a mini-field day. We also sponsor and promote the Hawaii QSO Party in late August each year.
